10Micron AZ4000 HPS Alt-Azimuth Mount
Price as Configured: $32,314.00
The 10Micron AZ4000HPS is the flagship of the AZ-HPS series — a professional-grade altazimuth research mount based on the mechanics of the GM4000HPS II, carrying up to 150 kg (330 lbs) of instrument payload with 10Micron's precision absolute encoders and sub-arcsecond tracking. Built for institutional observatories, research facilities, and demanding multi-telescope programs, the AZ4000HPS can be configured for simultaneous dual-telescope operation at 150 kg + 100 kg (330 + 220 lbs).
Deep Space Products is the exclusive certified 10Micron service and support provider in the United States. A 30% deposit is required at order placement; the balance and shipping are due before shipment. A DSP Remote hosting discount is available for mounts installed at our Bortle 1 facility in southwest New Mexico. Sales are limited to North and South America — please inquire about lead times before ordering.

What is the AZ4000HPS payload capacity, and what instruments does it support?
The AZ4000HPS carries 150 kg (330 lbs) in standard single-telescope configuration. With the optional dual-telescope kit (10M400DAZ), the mount supports 150 kg + 100 kg (330 + 220 lbs) simultaneously — and up to four total optical tubes if dual dovetail plates are used on each side. Instruments appropriate for this mount include 300 mm aperture refractors, 400 mm Newtonian reflectors, 500 mm Cassegrain and CDK systems, and large RC astrographs. Deep Space Products can advise on instrument and counterweight configuration before purchase.
What applications is the AZ4000HPS designed for?
The AZ4000HPS is a professional research instrument used for satellite tracking, photometric and astrometric survey programs, LiDAR laser ranging, multi-telescope observatory programs, planetary and solar system imaging, wide-field patrol work, and simultaneous multi-wavelength observing campaigns. For long-exposure deep-sky astrophotography, a field de-rotator is required. For all other applications at this payload class, the AZ4000HPS operates without a rotator and delivers full 10Micron tracking precision.
How does the AZ4000HPS differ from the AZ3000HPS?
The AZ4000HPS carries 150 kg (330 lbs) versus 100 kg (220 lbs) for the AZ3000HPS — 50% more payload. The AZ4000HPS uses larger-diameter axes (85 mm AZ / 80 mm Alt vs. 80/50 mm), substantially heavier worm wheels (430/315 teeth vs. 315/255 teeth), and a heavier counterweight shaft (60 mm vs. 50 mm). The mount itself weighs 125 kg (276 lbs) vs. 65 kg (143 lbs) for the AZ3000HPS. Go-to speed tops out at 8°/s versus 12°/s for the AZ3000HPS, reflecting the additional mass being driven. The AZ4000HPS is the appropriate choice for the largest instruments; the AZ3000HPS is the right fit for observatory-class systems within its 220 lb envelope.
Can the AZ4000HPS be used for deep-sky astrophotography?
Yes, with a field de-rotator. Because of the altazimuth design, field rotation affects long exposures without active compensation. With a quality ASCOM-compatible field de-rotator — Deep Space Products recommends the PlaneWave IR90 or Optec Gemini for large AZ-HPS mounts — the AZ4000HPS delivers full 10Micron sub-arcsecond precision for long-exposure imaging. Contact DSP to discuss de-rotator selection and integration with your specific optical system.
What does the dual-telescope option enable, and how many scopes can I mount?
The optional dual-telescope accessory (10M400DAZ) adds a second mounting arm supporting up to 100 kg on the secondary side. With dual dovetail plates (Lodual, Maxidual) on each arm, up to four individual optical tubes can be operated simultaneously — two per side. This makes the AZ4000HPS one of the most productive platforms available for multi-program or multi-wavelength observatory operations. All GM4000 series dovetail plates and accessories are compatible with the dual-telescope configuration.
Is a deposit required to order the AZ4000HPS?
Yes. A 30% deposit is required at order placement; the balance and shipping costs are due and paid before the mount ships. Typical lead times vary — contact Deep Space Products before ordering for current availability and an estimated delivery window. Orders canceled before the mount ships from Italy are subject to a 5% cancellation fee; orders canceled after Italy departure are subject to a 25% cancellation fee.
Is a cold-temperature version available, and can it be added after delivery?
A cold-temperature version is available for operation to −35°C (−31°F), with lubricants certified to −60°C or lower. This option must be specified at the time of the original order and cannot be added post-delivery. Contact Deep Space Products if your site requires cold-temperature capability.
Where is 10Micron service handled in the United States?
Deep Space Products is the only certified 10Micron service and support provider in the United States. Firmware updates, diagnostics, and all repairs are handled domestically — no shipping to Italy required. For major service on an AZ4000HPS, DSP manages the full process.
