10Micron 5" Dovetail Clamping Plate — Secure Grip for Large, Heavy OTAs
The 10Micron 5" Dovetail Clamping Plate (10M-4550-A) is the purpose-built saddle for astronomers running large, heavy optical tubes on 10Micron GM3000 or GM4000 HPS mounts. With a 5-inch (127mm) clamping width and three locking knobs, it provides a significantly more rigid hold than the standard 3" Losmandy-compatible or 4" "Maxi" plates — which matters when your payload approaches the upper range of what these mounts can carry. Deep Space Products stocks this plate as part of its full 10Micron accessories inventory and is the exclusive certified U.S. service provider for all 10Micron products.
When the 5" plate is the right choice
The 5" clamping plate is designed for heavy and large-diameter OTAs that would stress a narrower saddle — think 14"+ SCTs, large Newtonians, Ritchey-Chrétien configurations, or dual-telescope setups in observatory environments. The GM4000 HPS can support up to 330 lbs (150 kg) of instrumentation, and for loads at the higher end of that range, wider contact area and three-point clamping translate directly into reduced flex and more consistent pointing behavior between sessions.
System compatibility and required accessories
This plate accepts the 10Micron 5" dovetail slide bar (#10M-4560), a 500mm black anodized aluminum bar sold separately. Note that to operate the plate's locking knobs with adequate clearance on GM3000 or GM4000 mounts, 10Micron recommends pairing this plate with the dedicated Flange Adapter — #10M-3545 for GM3000 mounts or #10M-4545 for GM4000 mounts. Like all 10Micron accessories, this plate is CNC machined from aluminum with a black anodized finish.
